Globalization

What is globalization? How does it impact our everyday lives?
Well, to start off, globalization describes the process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a global network of political ideas through communication, transportation, and trade. Thank you Wiki! In other words, without globalization, we would not have Big Macs. Now I know you guys love McDonalds. I love the dollar menu! Okay, sorry back on topic.
Globalization affects our everyday lives in many ways. From the clothes we wear down to the food we eat, everything has something to do with globalization. Our clothes are not all made the USA. In fact, mostly everything is made from China. Go China! Also, the clothes we eat are influenced from around the country. Other nations mix their recipe with others or just share their own. Without globalization, you guys wouldn’t be eating that amazing Chinese carry out on the weekends.
The USA is based off globalization itself. Different cultures mingle together creating a new one. We even have the first black president. Do not work folks; soon you will be calling me Mr. President. The USA is where globalization shows the most because people from all over the world gather together. Religions also play a major role in globalization. In the USA, we have the freedom to choose our own religion unlike other countries where one is forced to follow a certain view in life.
Overall, I believe globalization is a good thing for everyone; living in America at least. Because I know that Americans take advantage of the poor Asians over at the eastside. Oh wells, sucks to be them.

Sports in My Life

Sports are part of everyday life to some people. To other fat, un-athletic, no life having people, sport is nothing but torture. That’s right fat people, start running and dribbling a ball.
Okay, but for real. The sport in my life is none other than basketball. I mean who is a better athlete than Lebron James? Yeah that is right. King James all the way.  As an American, I believe basketball is the most dominant sport over here. Compared to the rest of the world, where soccer is the dominant sport, most Americans are more hyped about the playoffs. Maybe it might be the Super bowl, but it is definitely not soccer. Only Mexicans in America cares about soccer with their scream of “GOALLLLL”. I prefer the sound of, “OH DAM! HE JUST GOT DUNKED ON!”.
Sadly, I am actually a pretty bad basketball player myself. Even though I am six feet tall, I have no hops and no handles. I wish I was better. Maybe it is because I am Asian. Basketball and Asians do not mix besides if you are seven feet like Yao Ming.
Another reason I like basketball is because of NBA 2k11. That is the best game on Earth. I am not going to lie; I do not even know more than half the teams and players. But who cares about them when more then half the time all I say is LEBRONNNN or KOBEEEEE. There is no need for those other useless players. They can not even shoot right.
This is why basketball is in my life.

Thankful for a Classmate

The holiday season is coming and most importantly, Thanksgiving. What am I thankful for in life? The friends and family I have; especially the ones in the current class. I chill with the amigos.
First up, Vanessa (Va Nay Nay). I have known her since freshman year. She is one of my favorite Mexican girl. She always gets offended each time I mix up the rest of the Latinas with Mexicans. Yes, she thinks I’m racist. Its ok I still love her.
Next up, Jessica! She always is late to class, but it’s ok because when she does come it makes me smile. We’ve known each other for like two years now and it is just amazing to talk to her. She just makes me smile everyday.
ALEJANDROOOO! That’s my boo, all homo intended. Yeah sadly we just met each other this year. Why didn’t we known each other sooner? I don’t know. But he’s a cool guy and all and even though we only met this year, I can honestly say you are one of my favorite Mexican guys. Yeah baby I got you.
Shem! What happened? We used to take the train home everyday after school! After that, we lost contact bro. It is alright. We have two classes together. Man that physics be hard. There isn’t anybody to cheat off of! (Is that right because I don’t know.) But yeah, we should hang out sometime.
I can’t forget about Mr. Phil Banks. Did you know I used to think you hated me during tennis season? Well, even if you did, you love me now! Yes Phil, you are the pretty one out of the group.
Yes, this blog entry is personal so it isn’t all grammatically correct. But everyone makes the class fun and I love class thanks to that.

Open Letter to Cormac McCarthy

Dear Mr. Cormac McCarthy,

Regarding your book, The Road, I would have to say you have an excellent insight of the future. But, is your vision really true? Will humans go as far as trapping and eating each other? Will our humanity reduce to only the need for survival? I am not saying that the book is not good, but the storyline is so graphic. The imagery that produces in my head is just so amazing. Sorry sir, I lied. Your book is amazing, besides the fact that I do not like reading. I actually enjoyed the movie though. I mean I actually stayed awake in class for you because I usually go to sleep every time a movie plays. Yes sir you are special.
Back to the book, yeah it is pretty cool. The saddest part is that everyone is killing each other in order to survive. If I was in their situation, I would have just shot myself long ago. The story holds a deep meaning of love for family and the want for survival. The best part though is that they survived for so long and the boy lived life as though it was normal. It is a shame that they robbed the black guy. I mean why does the guy have to be black? Why couldn’t he have been white? Why would you rob a guy that already has nothing? Or was that just the movie?  Either way, I enjoyed the book and the movie. You sir, are amazing.

Defend the Poet! (Charles Bukowski)

Charles Bukowski. Who is this guy? Who is he to tell us that we are going to die? This Charles Bukowski is saying that we are going to go extinct like dinosaurs. Do we look like reptiles that are more than 10 feet tall and eat each other? I mean we humans have brains. Brains that is not just for survival. We use it to change our lives. Can dinosaurs do that? No, but we can. Why should I defend this guy that is telling us that we are all going to die? Sorry, I prefer to die of old age. I am not going to be in some apocalypse where I am going to die of starvation or some disease. See compared to the dinosaurs, we have technology. If the whole world works together, I am pretty sure that they can do something about an apocalypse.
If not, oh wells I rather get hit by a comet than suffer starvation and such things. It will go like BIG BANG! No sorry I dont know what I am saying. I am just ranting on and on. Ok its 188 now. Back to Mr. Bukowski. Yeah, sorry I cant defend you. I do not agree with you and I prefer to see a future in my life. So sadly, I am going against you. But you have a great philosophical approach by foreseeing the future. We all have our approaches in life and I believe that we will survive.

A New Direction

So tell me, why do we need a new direction? I believe that life in the classroom as it currently is, is fine right now. We may have a different approach to learn things but I like it this way. There are no right or wrong answers and everyone communicates to each other about their different perspective on things. The best part is, according to Phil and the Korean boy, the text book is dry. That book is so boring. Thank god we don’t have to read it. I prefer to discuss in class about the topics than read a book about some ancient history where the guy attempts to be funny but isn’t. I like when we argue with Mr. McCarthy. I like that we can say crazy shit and he doesn’t care because it’s our opinion and our “philosophy”.
The direction that we are going in now makes best use of the fifty allotted minutes in that class. Because there are no limitations on what we can talk about, we are constantly involved in the conversation because we can make it about what we are interested in. For example, if I thought that I got my girlfriend pregnant and I brought that up in class, there will probably be a discussion about pre-martial sex and if it is right or not. Yes, I am a pimp. But no she’s not pregnant so don’t be starting dumb rumors okay =] so yeah the class is good as it is.

Father and Son, Mother and Daughter and whatever.

Ok, so we all know that one child usually gets along with only one parent. Depending on who is close to close, things may be interpreted differently. When a father is close to his son, it is a man to man thing. When a mother is close to her daughter, it is a girl to girl thing. When a mother is close to her son, the son is a momma’s boy. When a father is close to his daughter, he is over protective.
Father and son. Ahh . . . what a great combination. You can just imagine two guys playing catch with each other or something like that. This is what men are! Now imagine a father with his daughter. Can’t you just imagine a man sitting in the couch polishing a shotgun while waiting for his daughter to come home with his boyfriend?
The world has become completely become ignorant. Just because a son loves his mom doesn’t make him a momma’s boy. Sons are supposed to love their parents. It just so happens that the mother takes care of the son more than the father. I know for a fact my father barely cares about me sadly. It is ok though because I am a man. A man doesn’t need emotions. Men are tough.
See what I mean? Even I am ignorant of myself. The world has become a place where everything is related to gender. We need to change all that. I mean even though there are some girls that look like guys and vice versa, they are special. A man doesn’t need to be tough and a woman doesn’t need to be girly. They should just be themselves.

How Do I Know What I Know?

How do I know what I know? Is knowledge preexisting or is it human made? Is knowledge just taught from human to human? Is knowledge even real?
We know what we know because people question what they know already; which in turn answer our question and how we know it. People consider knowledge to be real because what people from the past proves it is true. By proving they use reasons that sound reasonable to the human mind. But is it really true? Can we believe reasons from more than a hundred year old and created by some old man who trapped himself in his room that most people today would consider crazy?
Why do we know what I know? Because everybody is forced to learn. What if I don’t want to go to school? Sadly for us children, we are forced to go until we are 16. We are brainwashed to learn what the society believes what the truth is. People just keep finding new things for us to learn and things for us to believe.
The truth is it is not that bad to learn new things at school. At least we can communicate to each other compared to gorillas and other animals. Unlike other mammals, humans have an intelligent mind. We should make use of this advantage that we have and learn as much as we can.
So again, how I do what I know? We are taught by old wrinkled men who convinces the rest of the world that he is right. Thanks to these old men, we learn more than we ever would.

Our Meaning

Life has many meanings. To some it may be a path to follow; to others it may be to be an adventure. There are the few crazies who devote themselves to absolutely nothing and live in the middle of nowhere. Then there are the rest of us, who live in the middle of the city who ruined the natural Earth.
We are animals. We pollute the Earth with “inventions” such as cars and factories. We don’t do anything to clean it up but instead wait till we’re near death before these new inventions come out. Come on, what is the point in making new stuff when you already ruined the Earth. We wait thousands of years before we go like, “Oh no! We polluted the Earth!” Like really now? We could of stop making so much of these horrible inventions. Even though I am saying this, I enjoy driving. I am a hypocrite.
You know who is respectable? The Indians or whoever the rest of the tribes are. They live in the forest, dress with leaves to cover their sexy parts, and don’t invent anything that ruins the world. They are not fat like us because they do not stuff themselves with excess meat by killing unnecessarily. Man why are we so fat? Stupid McDonalds and the stupid creepy clown that keeps telling us to eat a Big Mac.
But for real, I believe that we do not have a meaning in life. After one hundred years, no one will remember us. We are all nobody but beings that occupy the Earth long enough so that more people could occupy the Earth.

God in 2010

What is God? Who is God? There are many questions about God today and how he is viewed in the modern world. Some may view him as part of a religion but others may see him as an entity, a higher being. Others, just plain old don’t believe in God. People today sometimes attribute all the bad things that happen in the world to Him.
As the all mighty God, he is viewed as the creator of the world. According to the Bible, he created us from mud. But come on, do we look like mud to you? We are not dirt particles gathered into one being. We all know this, but there are no other reasons for or existence except for God. Even when some say that humans came through evolutions, who created the animals that allowed the transformation?
Another view of God is the making of miracles. Some people pray to him during the time of need, or others just to thank him for their existence. Is he really there or is people just praying to God in order to make themselves feel better, a placebo effect. Whatever the reason, God is viewed as a miracle worker, making something out of nothing.
Finally, another view of God is in common phrases. Phrases such as “Oh my God,” “Oh my Lord”, “Thank God” are all common phrases said by a lot of people. People who say these phrases may not relate themselves to God at all. Whatever the reason is, God is something no one fully understands, even in the technological world today.

Candide's Punishment, Do They Fit the Crime?

Candide literally means simple minded. As a young simple minded boy, Candide believed anything that he was told. Before he got kicked out the baron’s mansion, he was living the good life. Food, money, power, it was all good. Then some fat chick, Cunegonde, started to like him. I mean how does he like a fat chick in the first place? Candide even had the nerve to kiss her. Maybe he was desperate because there were barely any other females. Man, a fat chick would be the last person I would fall in love with.
On the other hand, it was not even Candide’s fault. The fat Cunegonde forced herself on him. I mean seriously, why should he get punished if it is not even his fault? If I was a father I would get mad too, but if my daughter was fat and stuck in a castle all day long, being with a man isn’t that bad. I mean who else would want her, besides desperate men? He was lucky Candide was simple minded and even wanted Cunegonde in the first place.
Overall, I don’t believe getting kicked out the castle was an appropriate punishment. I mean sure, he kissed the baron’s daughter and the baron got mad, but wasn’t he like a son? I wouldn’t kick my son out the house if I had one. I mean look, the baron kicked him out the house and what happened to him? He got killed and his house burned down. That’s what he gets.

Who is the Modern Socrates?

In the past, there was one man who questioned everything about life: Socrates. Socrates exhibited great pleasure in philosophy and the origins of everything. Some may call him a nuisance, but then again what is life without asking questions. Even though Socrates himself has never written anything down, the world knows him due to his students. His students wrote down his ideals, methods, and way of life. According to his students, Socrates questioned people so much, that it led to his death.
Who is the modern Socrates? Since Socrates passed away, someone has to take his spot. But is there anyone as persistent as him? Is there anyone willing to give up his own life because he can’t question authority? Not exactly, but many present philosophers think like him.
Philosophers spend their whole life studying life. What is life? How is life formed? Why do we act the way we do? Psychologist Sigmund Freud supported the belief that not all mental illnesses have physiological causes and he also offered evidence that cultural differences have an impact on psychology and behavior. Even though he is dead today, there are still many psychologist trying to find how we behave the way we do.
Even students, such as me, question things to an extent. In our case, we would be young philosophers. I know there are times where students question the system of education and why we are in it; just like how Socrates questioned the government. Students also question the teachers all the time. How is this done? Why is it done like this? To some extent, students are like Socrates.

The Unexamied Life is Not Worth Living?

Socrates has once said that the unexamined life is not worth living. "Examined" has many definitions, including: To observe or inspect carefully or critically; to study or analyze; to check the health or condition of something or someone; to inquire into; etc. Socrates suggests that the "unexamined life" refers to a life whose purpose has never been questioned; a life that has never been analyzed, inquired into or inspected; a life that has not been appreciated beyond face value. By suggesting this, Socrates gives praise to questions such as, "Is there more to reality than that which we can see and touch?;" "Am I living my life according to my own rules, or the rules set for me by others?;” The quote may suggest Socrates' belief that a human who does not examine their own life, nature, reality, relationships, motivations, and thoughts, is wasting the experience, therefore such a life is not worth living.
I do not completely agree with Socrates. Life is not without a reason, even if it is the “examined life”. He is essentially saying that the people who do not “examine” themselves should all go die. Some people take life for granted. Living day to day may seem like a chore, but if one does something productive everyday one may come to enjoy life. Sure, life isn’t all about play and fun, but working hard until one achieve successfulness is what life is about. What do you do after you achieve success? That’s simple. Buy a Lamborghini and a mansion.  Then go on as much vacations as you want until you see everything. By the time that’s over, your life is probably over to. Get money or die trying!

Eulogy

I may have meant something to each and every one of you. To some, I may have been good and for some I may have been a nuisance. To those who I have bothered throughout my life, I am sorry. To those who have stayed with me during the thick and the thin, I am truly thankful for all of your love and support.
I remember the good old times when I was a kid just running around, laughing, and playing. The days where homework didn’t exist and girls have cooties. I enjoyed those times the best because of the care-free attitude. But now, I have matured and became who I am today.
I know I am not the perfect guy; everyone has his faults. But I think of myself as a virtuous young man. I am intelligent, civilized, honored, courteous, and so on. I can listen to people when they have problems. I know most of the time I seem like a joker, but I can be serious when I need to be. People always enjoy an outgoing personality more, right? I always find time to be with my friends and family. I would never break a promise to a dear friend. I could go on and on but I don’t want to sound to cocky.
My life isn’t complete yet and there is many more challenges ahead of me. I hope my dear friends and family will still be there to support and I will return the favor.
